Priorties (2002)

At a workshop held in January 2002, cattle industry association representatives and members of the Cattle Industry Development Council developed the following list of priorities for the use of the Beef Cattle Industry Development Fund. Council members will refer to this list in evaluating applications for funding. Suggested project areas are listed following each Priority Issue.

Public education about agriculture and the environment
Manure spreading, nutrient loading
Peer education and recognition

ANIMAL CARE

Producer education

ASSOCIATION DEVELOPMENT

Building and maintaining membership

PRODUCTION IMPROVEMENT PRACTICES

Herd health knowledge (pest management and lower dependence on antibiotics)
Disease management
Improving awareness of industry standards
Transfer of knowledge on new production standards
Research on feeding cattle less expensively

Nutrient/trace mineral requirements

LAND ISSUES

Urban-rural conflict and urban encroachment
Aboriginal issues and treaty rights
Compensation to producers for land loss

Beef Cattle Industry Development Fund

Application forms for matching funds for projects to benefit the beef cattle industry in BC are available from the CIDC Office. Applications are considered, the month following these deadlines for submission of applications: June 30, Sept 30, Dec 31, March 31.
