Livestock dealers, agents and slaughter operations:
It is a requirement of the Cattle Industry Development Council Regulation of the Farming and Fishing Industries Development Act that dealers and agents buying cattle collect the CIDC levy ($5/head check-off, plus GST) from the seller of the cattle and remit it to the CIDC. The regulation states that “the distributor of the cattle (or first person who purchases the cattle from the producer), including livestock dealers, public sale yards or slaughter houses must collect and remit the levy to the council, on the sale or slaughter of cattle in British Columbia.” The levy rate (check-off) is $5 per head of cattle, plus 5% GST (as of July 1, 2018).
The producer dollars that you deduct must be remitted to the CIDC office by the end of the month following the deduction. To assist in offsetting some of your bookkeeping costs, you may retain 15¢ per head of cattle (3% of levy). You can download & print Remittance forms . The CIDC reports annually, maintains a website and publishes newsletters to help keep producers informed of activities carried out with the check-off funds. The Cattle Industry Development Council appreciates the co-operation extended by the cattle agents in British Columbia. Your involvement in the process is an important service to the BC cattle industry. If you have any questions, please call:
